Employing Technology in the Traditional Teaching Model

Technology has transformed the old learning model into a new model known as flipped classroom. A reversed form of the traditional model where direct instruction is performed outside the classroom and facetime is used for significant and personalized learning.

Students access curriculum materials in advance before they come to the classroom and they are able to learn at their own pace depending on their abilities.

In the classrooms, instructors/teachers take advantage of class time maximizing discussions and interactions between the students.

This model shifts the learning approach from teacher-centred model  to a student-centred model.

The Role of Textbooks in the Future

In the digital era, textbooks will become a thing of the past. Textbooks come with a couple of limitations which include outdated information, wear and tear and are relatively expensive compared to cheaper tech oriented alternatives.

Textbooks also do not account for different learner abilities and reading textbooks forces students to grasp everything at the same time in the same way. Therefore, personalized learning is a crucial element that all schools need to adopt due to the different learner abilities. We are not able to achieve this if we still continue to rely solely on textbooks; it’s hard to determine every learners reading and understanding orientation.

The Focus of Learning in The Future

Focus on learning should be around personalized learning. Every student is unique and deserves learning that’s designed to meet his or her specific needs. This can only be achieved through the flexibility that comes with digital education. Teachers will be able to monitor and identify learning trends of each student and give each special attention.

We have to prepare students for the 21st century workforce needs. With technology advancements, we don’t have an option but to teach students to be innovators and creators. For example, it’s important that all students learn concrete skills on computing. We should also equip our students with skills on leadership, communication, emotional intelligence, empathy, problem-solving and entrepreneurship.

The Importance of Teachers in the Future of Education

Teachers undeniably have the most influence on a child’s education. Even with all the  education technology platforms coming, teachers will still play a major role on developing students’ skills. Again for any technology learning platform to be successful, teachers have to be the main implementers. We have to empower teachers to adopt new teaching models. Investing heavily in training teachers will do good for the future of the teaching role so that they are comfortable using the new technologies.

AI and the Future of Technology

AI is already transforming education at an unbelievable speed. Personalized learning has been further made possible by AI. Because of AI, students and teachers will be able to connect with resources they need exactly when they need them. Assessments of students have been improved by AI by ensuring progressive relevance.

Another additional advantage of AI is that, it is easier for students to receive questions depending on their abilities. Big data analytics has made it possible for teachers to improve on areas of teaching performed poorly. In addition, virtual reality and augmented reality has made learning fun and brought a more immersive learning experience into the classrooms.

Students are now able to explore and see things far from their locations. LAI is not going to replace teachers, but only augment their performance. AI, where education is concerned, should  be termed as Augmented intelligence
